Jensen Series 400 Mixers are heavy duty, belt driven units designed for long life and trouble-free operation in petroleum service. The Series 400 is supported entirely by the tank manway or nozzle — no tie rods, slings, bases, or external supports required. Light weight and low-overhang design reduce installation costs and simplify maintenance.

Mechanical Seal — Type "F"

The Jensen Type "F" mechanical seal is an integral part of every Series 400 Mixer and is designed for long life at low cost. Materials of construction were especially selected to suit petroleum applications. Both sealing members are extra heavy to prevent face distortion. If seal replacement is necessary, wearing parts may be purchased separately, cutting replacement cost in half.

Standard Materials

  • Rotating Seal FaceCarbon
  • Stationary Seal FaceNi-Resist (High Nickel Cast Iron)

Optional Materials

  • Manganese Bronze
  • Tungsten
  • Silicon Carbide

Jensen Sentry System

Available on 450 & 480

The Jensen Sentry System consists of an externally-mounted lube pod that connects to the fluid-filled chamber surrounding the mixer's mechanical seal. In the event of a mechanical seal breach, the gravity-lubricated system detects and safely holds maximum tank head pressure — preventing tank contents from leaking onto the ground. Similar to API Plan 65B.

Mixer Selection Guide

Blending — Fixed Angle

A Jensen 400 Fixed Angle Mixer is ideal for blending miscible fluids, preventing stratification, eliminating surface solidification, and heat transfer for uniform temperature. Installed at slight angles relative to the tank centerline — typically 10° in large tanks, 7° in small tanks.

Desired Flow Pattern:

  • Slight horizontal swirl
  • Significant vertical turnover

Cleaning — Vari-Angle

For sediment removal, select the Jensen Model 400-VA Vari-Angle Mixer. In applications requiring both blending and cleaning, use the Vari-Angle model.

  • Directs propeller flow anywhere in the tank
  • Eliminates dead spots
  • Improves sediment suspension
  • Reduces manual tank cleaning
  • Removes sediment from old tanks

Mechanical Actuator

The Jensen mechanical actuator automatically sweeps through a 60° entry angle, operating left-to-right and back, completing a full cycle in approximately 28 hours.

No external power required
Bolts directly to drive shaft
Very low energy consumption
Retrofit capable
Easy installation (~15 min)
Quick multi-mixer synchronization

Check pulley alignment and maintain uniform tension. Avoid temperatures above 140°F (60°C). Keep drives ventilated. Never use belt dressing or force belts onto sheaves. Prevent oil contamination.

Propeller Roll-Through Clearances

Manway inside diameter (inches) required to insert propeller. H = manway depth (inches); columns = propeller diameter (inches).
Example: A 29" propeller will rotate through a 23" opening provided the opening depth is 8" or less.

Minimum Fluid Levels & Floor Clearance

Almost every vibration problem with Jensen Mixers results from too little clearance between the tank walls, tank floor, and mixer propeller. Low fluid levels may draw air into the propeller stream and cause vibration.
